Agree! I love the New Yorker but the digital edition on the iPad should be free with my subscription.
For what it is worth, it's my understanding you can technically get a digital version of the New Yorker, it is just the extra features of the iPad app that cost extra. I just looked into this myself with the New Yorker. While I haven't started it yet, the digital version looks like a digital copy of the print version while the iPad app brings interactive videos, expansion on stories, etc.

I wish I could get 8GB for my Early but it's probably the memory controller in Intel's chipset limiting it.

Oh, BTW, if products are announced as "ships today" then only flagship stores will have the products available immediately in-store right?
Even then, the flagships may not have them for a few days. (For those headed to MWSF, it's only a two-block walk to go check. :D )
3:00 at the marked horseshoe lounge sounds great to me. I think I can make that any day next week. Like vniow, it would help if people knew what day(s) they'll likely participate in this. I'll probably only spend part of one day checking out the Exhibit Hall, and I can make that any of the days...I just need to know which one to choose! :)

If Apple top Google Maps on Android as it is today then hats off to them as Google Maps is fantastic. Im really looking forward to seeing what Apple can do.
Well, Google Maps app on android originated from the one on the iPhone so I think Apple has got full potential to do it.
The only thing they need is data and I am sure they can do a better job than google.

Okey, interesting, I was always wondering about traffic data that was collected from people's phones. I think I'll hold off from buying the Navigon app for a little bit more.

They also didn't mention the OS X requirements. Given the June release date I'm leaning towards a Lion (OS X 10.7) requirement which so far requires 64-bit hardware. Late June would be Summer and Apple has said that Lion will ship in Summer of this year. Releasing Lion 2-3 weeks after the big developer conference, WWDC, sounds aggressive, but Lion has been in developers hands for some now.
There was a mention of it tapping into the technologies already in Snow Leopard as part of the demo, so I would expect it to run on at least 10.6. Forcing everyone to upgrade to Lion in order to use FCPX doesn't seem at all likely.

If you don't like the rules of your job, then quit. Otherwise suffer the consequences.
Sure boss, because good paying jobs are so plentiful and easy to get I should just walk off my job whenever I get the urge...
Any more words of wisdom for the masses Copernicus?

Leopard will be awhile, likely spring 2007 as has been previously posted. Remember, we're only at 10.4.8 and there's room for one more upgrade before the new OS comes out ;)
Apple doesn't have to worry about meeting the Vista timeline. For one thing, Vista hasn't met a deadline yet on time. For another, when it does come out it's only going to be roughly equivilent of Jaguar and and what we have now is far superior.

That is way cool! Probably some practical issues (like how to not block the camera while you are flipping it around), but it looks really effective with no glasses, I'm impressed.

Core 2 Duos in the MacBook Pros!!! Come on you know you want to damnit....
Hell yes!!!
With a better mobile graphics GPU, i.e.,
ATI Mobility Radeon X1800 Series or
GeForce Go 7900
Larger optional hard drives:
offer the Seagate ST9160821A-RK 160 GB ATA-100 for mac laptops or Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160 GB
and here is the kicker: (optional)
Blu-Ray Drive player/burner, with DVD+-R (dl) ability.
hey i know it would cost more, but apple is supposed to lead in terms of technology.

Ah yes, the old America-is-cheaper-than-the-world problem. You are right, the iPhone *can* cost more in some markets. I was talking about the American market.
And yes, more Android phones are sold than iPhones as long as you lump all the Android phones into one big bucket, including all those Asian knockoffs that are Android in name only.

I went after work. I was about the 25th person to preorder. They did not say they would call me, they would not set up an appointment, & I was not comfortable that they would not sell the preorder phones if they had enough people waiting at the door. I got the impression that there would be a preorder station so if you preordered you could essentially go to the head of the line but if they ran out of stock on regular phones, they might start selling preorders. I told the guy that I have to work that day & can't stand in line so I'll call him that morning & see what the situation is & if they "have enough to cover all preorders" they'll hold one for me until that afternoon. It was not a good feeling but I'm fairly sure I'll get one within a week of launch at the latest.

Well, I just went to my local Best Buy. I had called them earlier when they opened this morning at 10:00 AM, and they said that they took about 20 preorders yesterday and were going to be taking preorders again today. I know, based on comments on this site, that they have a "loose" policy regarding the preorders (i.e., I don't know that they will stop taking preorders at any point), but my thinking is that if I am preorder #21, then I should get one on the launch day (since the report stated that each store would get "at least 45 iPhones" on launch day). I guess we will see, but this was at least as good of an alternative as ordering on Apple's site and not getting one until after July 2nd.
Anyway, I went in and got my preorder placed in a matter of minutes. In that short time frame, 2 other people came in to preorder as well! I told the BB guy that they will probably get a bunch of additional preorders today, since all other places are sold out.
Just curious on what everyones process at BB was. I walked in and signed a sheet of paper with barcodes and a picture of the iPhone 4. I paid 50 for a GC and they put my name down on a list for a 9am appointment on launch day. I just want to see if BB has the same procedures everywhere else.

That will instantly be lost as soon as you transfer your old HDD across.
That's silly. I think you should be able to copy just one drive over with the current data on the disc already intact.
Anyway, Sony is planning an 80 GB version of the PS3. Maybe they're going to take the 20 GB model off and put the 60 GB at $549 and have the 80 GB at $599? Who knows when this'll happen. I'm guessing around holiday season.

doh! there goes my plans to get the iPad 3 sometime in october. i just dont think the iPad 2 is the best it could have been. There are tablets out there with a gig and a half of ram already! what's this 500 megs? nothing! and the 1GHz processor, yes dual core but still. it could have been much better. I do admit the graphics even put the xoom to shame which i love since the xoom wasn't even released at the time.
it is a transition and they just wont admit it to themselves because it sells great. oooh under a centimeter thin. i want one. no. another thing is carbon fiber or even liquid metal unibodies they've been so graciously putting off for years now. i wouldn't mind paying an extra hundred bucks for a liquid metal MBP o iPad. it'd be more than twice the strength of titanium, so yeah, bulletproof notebook, who wouldn't want one? and it'd trim off an extra half pound of weight too. i did notice the .2lb difference in the iPad 2. it was noticeable with only .2lb off. imagine .5lb off instead? yeah.
sorry for trollin' its like 2AM where i am. im gonna go get some sleep now.

The only benefit to transcoding prior to effects/grading would be to aid system performance. It will not result in better image quality.
Yes and no, as I understand it. A smart guy said "sure when you transcode an 8bit 4:2:0 file to ProRes you won't be getting any more bits in the bucket, but you get a bigger bucket to swirl them all around in." (I paraphrase)
Every time you hit "render", your file gets rendered in whatever you have asked FCP to use. If it's an 8-bit 4:2:0 format (even DV) then the calculations applied to those colours may shift them away from the rest of the footage (or to use that metaphor, swirling the bits in that small bucket will result in losing some). Render a clip over and over again (say, text overlays) and the shifts may become noticeable. You may also get compression artefacts sneaking in.
ProRes is high bitrate, 4:2:2 10bit colour so more subtle variations of colour can be rendered in, rather than the crude 8bit steppings you sometimes see in things like DV.
Flipside, I reckon editing AVCHD directly is fine if you are usually a "cut this, butt that, overlay this, trim that" kind of guy. And I am.

The demo shows both. The gyro/acceleration works when the iPad is moving and the head is still. The head tracker adds to the effect when the iPad is still and the head is moving. The combination should be quite nice.
"It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera."
