And just how could Apple be found to be absuing its position by buying what it needs to supply its customers whith product? Maybe if the iPad wasn't selling all that well but Apple can't keep up with demand as it is. Arguments like yours don't even make sense and I'll bet you some serious money that no one can produce a single instance of a company "found to be abusing its position" by buying what its needs to produce and sell its products. The critical question would be: In the contract between Apple and the manufacturer, is there any clause that stops the manufacturer from selling to other companies? That would be anti-competitive. If a manufacturer says "RIM offered us $100 a piece for one million screens", and Apple says "We'll give you $110 for each" and RIM can't get the screens, that would be fine. If the manufacturer says "we can make 2 million screens a month" and Apple says "Ok, we'll buy 2 million screens a month", that is fine. If Apple says "Ok, we'll buy all you can build up to 3 million screens a month", that is fine. If Apple says "We'll buy 2 million screens a month, and you must not sell any screens to anyone else", that is anti-competitive.

My thoughts exactly. Our school district (ISD 482) just bought 1,465 iPads for its students, and I can see us getting really mad if Apple were to release a new iPad 6 mos. later.

+Dropbox: There is a desktop/mobile client that will allow more seamless syncing and pulling of files down. With Amazon's service you will have to manually go and download files you want from their service. Incidentally, Dropbox uses Amazon's cloud storage backend for their service.
+Amazon: Built-in music player that will play/stream your music. Its like Mougg or MSpot. Makes it easy to have your music anywhere without having to sync all the time.
Conclusion: This is Amazon's move to try and get you to start buying content from them and not Apple iTunes, Microsoft Zune, and other competitors. They are shooting for a one stop shop for music, video, apps, and other content. In that sense, good move. But we'll see what Apple has up its sleeve(hopefully), if there is an update to Mobile Me.

Not true. You can not update to DP2 via Software Update. You have to re-install the entire OS via App Store. The only thing you download via Software Update is a 2.2MB pre-install patch.

Seriously I'm visualising a home digital interface perhaps replacing the Mac mini in the range. With flash hard drive, rechargeable battery and with a 8" screen. A user might sync it with their main Mac or add a larger display, keyboard and mouse and use it alone.
Answer the iPod phone with it and iChat whilst sat on the sofa watching iTV and playing with the the iCurtains - brilliant!
We shouldn't underestimate what progress will be made on voice entry and touch screens - way beyond what we already know!

Just ordered with the X1900 upgrade, memory upgrade, and Bluetooth. Says three to five weeks to ship.

We all remember the internal meeting Jobs held discussing how Google was in effect 'declaring war on Apple' by invading their "mobile" turf; what if this is Apple reciprocating. Offering similar options to Gmail for free and attempting to complement MobileMe with iAds in an attempt to unthrone Google. With the high hopes Apple has for iAds (as suggested by the rumors regarding the high developer pricing of iAds) it does make sense, and in the very least, try to hurt Google. Another intriguing question is: would Apple loyalists prefer Apple service over another as long as the quality is acceptable (perhaps even if the quality was less than the options, at first).

next phone might be a android after all

Note that the 3200x2000 wallpaper is form factor 16/10 and not 16/9!
Does this means Apple will be reverting to widescreen 16/10 displays instead of the tv-widescreen 16/9? Wouldn't be bad :D

I agree completely. 16:9 is fine, but I find that 16:10 is a much better ratio for apps and multitasking personally. It's amazes me how much the difference that little makes. Given a choice I will always go with 16:10 on a computer. Good eye.

That was fast. We just learned Magellan was going to offer a car kit for the iPhone and it has already hit the FCC. GPSTracklog.com has a detailed drawing of the new device, and it looks to be quite complete. Magellan has said the kit will be on sale before the end of the year, and even give the iPod touch full nav capabilities.
The car kit is supposed to allow any iPhone GPS app to work with it, so you're not limited to the Magellan app. It works in portrait or landscape mode, and has a speaker for hearing directions and also link to your iPhone for Bluetooth based calls.
The Magellan Roadmate app itself [iTunes link] has a boatload of good features, and we're anxious to get our hands on the app for a full test. Holiday travelers will have a lot of good choices for navigating to your destinations. Remember when we thought the plain old Google Maps app was cool?

If they were going to call it the 4G, they'd have to include LTE capabilities, and all rumours so far suggest they won't.
It could include HSPA+ capabilities (which, really, will be the 4G standard until LTE is rolled out in most locations, but iPhone 6 will be out when that is the case regardless of what carrier you're on).
Obviously, Verizon customers would be SOL if HSPA+ was the only 4G option since there's no similar technology for the VZW network.

Isn't ARM a RISC processor? We just switched from RISC to CISC. And now we're going back?
If my understanding of processor architectures are correct, the CISC processors have become a hybrid. There's a core part that is probably more similar to a RISC and a pre-processor that translates the CISC operations to the core. At least this was my understanding of the AMD Thunderbird chips from 10+ years ago. RISC chips moved in a similar and opposite direction, adding more instructions. Kind of counter to the original idea of RISC.

With AT&T's network running SO slow at times, I ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT INSTALL an update which make me use the server farm for streaming my own media.
Why is the assumption on this that it will be a requirement to do live real-time streaming? Wouldn't background syncing for volume data make more sense?
That way the premium for more storage is kept and the network is not saturated with sending the same data over and over.

I'll bet my bottom dollar that the conversation between the leaker at Apple and the second person went something like this:
Person: "So how close are we do a Golden Master?"
Leaker: "We're probably going to get a few more updates out then we'll start seeding some builds that are pretty Golden Master in quality"
The off runs the person to claim that the Golden Master seeds will be coming soon - I've seen it happen so many times where people get the wrong end of the stick especially if it is a chain of chinese whispers.

I think T-Mobile might fit this bill, at least in the US. I remember seeing a story here earlier in the year where T-Mobile said its vision was aligned with Apple (but not necessarily a partnership; abc article here (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/ZDM/story?id=2537247)).

As amazing as free MobileMe sounds, I find this HIGHLY unlikely.

Allowing this, Apple would have set a presidence, so yes, I understand why Apple asked for this to be stopped... Tomorrow company 'x' would be releasing their JB app. Adobe will be releasing Flash on to Cydia LOL.
Since we are talking in the context of smartphones, we should compare smartphone developer licenses, and not others. Apple vs Apple not Apple vs Lemon.
You can nit-pick it all you want. $99 is nothing for a quality program like what Apple offers to developers. Plus, you can still get the SDK for free. You can still develop for free. It's just if you want "in" on the AppStore and other resources, you pay. So... again... what's the beef?
