From the 'Steve Jobs boasting' rumors earlier, it would seem to suggest that the iPhone is way better than anything out there, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some form of pocket apps in a business version (a la PocketPC pda phones), with just itunes & other stuff in a standard consumer version.
Any thoughts on ipod accessory compatibility - like will the nike+ module just fit into the bottom of the iphone like it does on the nano?

You know its very sad that these people who work for literally peanuts, and in miserable working conditions, probably have families with mouths to feed, have a completely different life than anyone reading this forum could ever imagine, they don't have iphones and ipads, access to the internet, or even live in democratic society where they might receive a fair trial for this clear transgression.
A couple of creepy case manufactures waved some amount of money in their faces and it more than likely was not a lot, but it must have seemed like a fortune to them, for turning over the schematics of a product they probably had little idea of how ravenous a market was waiting for any and all details and demanded accessories immediately at the time of the launch of this super secret Apple product they would never be able to afford.
What they did was not right and I do not condone it, but everyone of you that bought one of these cases, probably on Ebay, that were available on the day of the launch plays a role in the scenario.
As most of us know these cases are cheaply made and have no quality control, basically cheap crap.
In my opinion want to know why the manufactures were not arrested and thrown in jail for bribing these employes. I think they probably were rich enough off the profits of their crappy cheap cases to bribe the local police.
Sometimes we have to look behind the initial headlines and think about the human elements and what led people to make the decisions they made.

I have a 2.66 15" Late 2008 MacBook Pro, my firmware matches the upgraded listing to allow 8GB of RAM. Pretty cool :)
actually the computer you are talking about was an early 2009 upgrade. they upgraded to a 2.66 ghz on the mbp 15" and also more on the 17" mbp. i have the same computer and got confused because the computer thinks its a late 2008 when apple considers it an early 2009. however it was still one that only supported up to 4 gb until this upgrade. cant wait to add 8 gb. just waiting to find some that are on sale for like $80

Very well said. A very thoughtful and rational statement. The histrionics from some members can be too much at times.
In saying that though, many people do just sell their contracted iPhone and buy the latest unlocked iPhone direct from Apple.

Come on apple!!!! There are 4800 people there who are all paying for tickets (or get tickets out of really pricey memberships). 4800 x $1595 = $7,656,000!!! (or around there). Do you think you could afford to buy 10 more Xserves?
About steve and his health... I haven't seen him yet (stream still not good enough to watch) but if he did have to have part of his stomach removed then that could be the reason he's skinny. Also a beard is not the sign of ill health.

Will apple be a cell phone service provider if/when this ships, or is this iPhone simply something that makes internet phone calls easier? Will Apple just provide the phone and allow Sprint, Verizon, etc. provide the service? Interesting.

Most people who buy Macs are somewhat creative. With a Celeron processor, you can't be very creative...
How about a Core Solo? I thought they were about as fast as an early G5. Plus the Intel graphics are actually faster for 2D stuff (playing video, for instance) than an accelerator card with 64MB of VRAM.

If any thing, Apple will probably completely unveil all of Leopard's features in January at Macworld. Right before consumers get their hands on Vista. Then, start taking pre-orders a week or two later, and shipping within a month. I feel safe saying that's a realistic prediction. :)

Only Steve and his principals can give you the real response to your question. Generally, most owners of Apple products tend to believe that their products are superior. Regardless whether that is true or not, Apple owners have bought the hype. It is not just the MBPs. Presently Apple products set the standard to which other products are compared. Apple owners are very satisfied with their iPods, Computers, iPhones and iPads. Clearly, Apple's customer service stands shoulders over the competition. Additionally, Apple's marketing plan is aimed at higher income consumers and not at the general public. Accordingly, you pay the premium price or what you deem as the MP Tax. Take a look at the Apple Stores. New consumers are lined up around the block to place their orders for a new iPad2. And that order may still have a two week wait.
Not just "higher income" people...
Another way to look at it is to compare Apple to HP, Dell, etc. HP, Dell, etc, use big contracts with Microsoft to get lower volume prices for Windows. They also shove in a lot of trialware, shareware, and other forms of licensed crapware to subsidize the cost. Get rid of those aspects and their prices would go up as well.
Looking inside a Mac Pro chassis and a $1400 DIY desktop PC that has the same types of internal components (Xeon, et al), the Mac Pro is much better designed - virtually no cables, great cooling... it's wonderful from a technical standpoint and I came from a PC environment, both boxed and DIY setups... even the Dell Precision line - cables aplenty and a poor interior design layout in general. Yuck.
I've yet to look at a new HP all-in-one device, but I suspect its screen will be a TN panel. Definitely not an H-IPS that Apple routinely uses for the iMacs.
Not to mention, fewer Mac owners means they have to pay any difference on top of the rest.
There is no real "Apple tax" as far as I'm concerned. There are, however, subsidies, crapware, Windows OS and its problems (the registry, fragmenting file systems, no native support, etc), et cetera. Windows might be faster at gaming, but that's only as long as the games are DirectX-optimized and the ports made to OpenGL, etc, just remain "good enough".
Juggling a score of factors, I'd still go with Apple.
